


Doras was born at Hillcott Farm at Golden Grove
and she attended Golden Grove School. When she left school she
nursed her mother until her death, then kept house for her brothers
until she married. As a result of her house keeping Doras was an
excellent cook producing prize winning scones at various shows,
Doras also crocheted and sewed the family clothes. Horace was born
at Georgetown SA and with his family moved to Hermitage before
settling at Tea Tree Gully.Horace and Doras started married life on
a small farm on Yatala Vale road/where they had an apple orchard,
kept cows and pigs and Horace cut and carried wood from the property
to bakeries etc, on large horse drawn trolleys. In 1921 they sold
the farm and moved to Modbury where they lived next to the Methodist
Church, Horace was working for a drilling company at Hope Valley.
From 1923-29 they lived and worked at Virginia and then moved to
Northfield where Horace worked at the Experimental Farm at Northield
until he retired, meanwhile they had moved to Walkerville, then to
Upper Sturt Rd, Mt Lofty in 1954, and lived there until their deaths
in 1960.
