


Alice was named after her
mothers cousin Alice Steinfeldt and her second name Jane after her
Grandmother, twins were born on her birthday in 1908 and she
attended the Presbyterian Church. Alice & Sam's wedding reception
was held at Hillcott Farm, Alice's mother had missed the wedding to
prepare the feast as family,friends and neighbors gathered to
celebrate the occasion. After the reception the bride and groom left
by horse and buggy to Woodbine their home on the Gawler River. Alice
went home to her parents for the birth of her first child, Reta, but
all the children who followed were born in their own parents
bedroom. Samuel was killed in a road accident but luckily Wilbur who
was also on the wagon escaped injury. Alice and her younger family
members carried on the farm, the older boys had moved to Yorke
Peninsula farming.Ian and Robert stayed on,then Ian going on to
Tintinara and Robert to Naracoorte. Mary and Alice with their
families also went farming on the Peninsula. |
