Saints proved impossible to read, however from 1810(app) onwards the
records were written on ruled stationary which made for easier
reading. Where this was the case both versions of Tilley/Tilly were
used.

Clavados in Normandy.lt was undoubtedley taken to England at the
time of the Conquest in 1066 and has been found on ancient records
in various forms of Tylly/Tilli-Tillie/Tylie/Tilly and Tilley.

gave,Tilly,Tiley,Tilley,Tylee,Tyly.
There were 76 Tilleys living in Wiltshire for
the 1851 census with 2 Tilley families living at Hilcott that are
not directly related,(possibly cousins), as mentioned previously
James and Mary were back at Hilcott when the 1881 census was taken.
